Yirrimbu – Wet Season

Northern winds bring heavy fruiting and breeding. Possums, frogs, and fruit bats are active. Midyims and native raspberries ripen. Yellow daisies bloom, signaling fish like whiting and mackerel are in season.

Guyumbu – Mullet Season

Western winds mark the end of rains. Sea mullet migrate to the coast, with dolphins helping people fish. Paperbarks flower and birds migrate from mountains, signaling the start of tailor season.

Waringu – Cold Season

Cold westerly and southerly winds. Bream, tailor, and jewfish are plentiful. Whales migrate north to breed. Banksias bloom, attracting lorikeets and honey eaters.

Yarggehmbu – Windy Season

Strong, shifting winds. Echidnas and turtles begin moving. Black cockatoos signal mountain rain. Witchetty grubs are fat and found beneath bark layers.

Gagabalingu – Goanna Season

As winds turn north and weather warms, goannas and reptiles become active. Silky oaks bloom, signaling fat turtles. Northern winds bring migrating shorebirds and whales with calves return south.

Moogerahmbu – Storm Season

Winds shift between north-east and south. Koalas breed, and many fruits and birds emerge. Shellfish, bush turkeys, and flathead become abundant. Mudcrabs and prawns are plentiful depending on rainfall.
